About Me

Hi! My name is Karimah and I am a Photographer, Cinematographer and Urban Designer based out of the beautiful multicultural city of Toronto (best city in the world if you don't mind me saying :P)

I specialize in Wedding Photography and offer customized Wedding Photography services. I am experienced in capturing cultural weddings, off the beat weddings, as well as traditional Western weddings. Some of the cultural weddings I have covered include Somali, Eritrean, Ethiopian, Kenyan, Ghanaian, Pakistani, Indian, Sri-Lankan and Caribbean weddings to name a few.

Photography is a deep passion of mine, it evokes a feeling of time that one just can't get from any other medium. I love the challenge of bringing a client's vision to life and this is what keeps me going! My style is somewhere along the lines of fresh, colourful and modern imagery with a dash of classic black and white images.

Cinematography for me is an artistic expression of the way we see and experience our world. It allows an audience to really feel like they are part of a lived or fantasy-like experience.

Design on the other hand has always been an enthusiasm of mine. Especially the design of the built environment. I love to tap into different avenues and interests in order to gain inspiration for my work.

FUN FACTS ABOUT ME

I hold a Bachelors degree in Landscape Architecture with a minor in International Development from the University of Guelph. I also hold a Masters degree in Urban Design from the University of Toronto. I am a firm believer in following your passions, and for me design and photography are my passion! My design inspirations are quite varied and are derived from my many interests, some of which include African Art, World Music and Architecture.

I consider public art and walkable spaces to be my thing!  My happy place is strolling down busy city streets or beautiful parks but I wouldn't turn down a beach and a neat ocean view as an alternative.

I am constantly challenging myself to learn new skills and try new activities (sewing, gardening, listening to grime music (yeah that's right grime music lol but only a tad bit hehe), jazz music, dessert making, etc), and it is from here that my creative ideas are formed. I bet you I would have at least one thing in common with you if I ever met you!

I was born in the West African country of Nigeria and spent the first half of my life there before moving to Canada as a teenager.

I have lived in five different Canadian Cities.

If I could choose another city in the world that I equally love as much as Toronto it would have to be Dar es Salaam located in the East African country of Tanzania. One of the best years of my life was spent living and working in Dar es Salaam.

My favourite type of food? It would have to be a tie between Thai and Indian. Oh but lets not forget Nigerian pounded yam and egusi soup, also what about that Suya?  All my Naija brothers and sisters know what I mean!

My favourite movie?  I am a real sap for movies that tell stories of the human condition in a romantic or comedic way. I have quite a list but my favourites would have to be The Bridget Jones series and the French film "The Intouchables" (If you haven't seen this one, please do! I think you might like it!).

I love watching soccer! Arsenal (Gunners for life!) makes my world go crazy but PSG balances it out lol.
